Multi-Disciplinary

Operational Teams

Human Resources

Nu Quantum’s team is composed of experts from diverse disciplines and our HR team are critical in recruitment, development, and retention of this highly specialised talent. They have played a vital role in developing our positive company culture and managing employee well-being, which is important in the fast-paced environment of a start-up. In addition to this they facilitate training and professional development programs, manage employment compliance, manage employee benefits, and handle visa application processes for acquisition of non-UK based talent. Their amazing efforts have helped to build a strong organisational foundation and will continue to be essential for the long-term growth and success of Nu Quantum.

Project Management Office

Building our expert Project Management Office (PMO) was vital for nu Quantum because it provides a structured approach to managing our complex, multi-disciplinary projects. As is common in an R&D environments, projects within the quantum industry can carry high uncertainty, tight deadlines, and significant resource demands. Our PMO ensures that projects are planned, executed, and monitored effectively, providing methodologies and best practices for project management.

Office and Laboratory Management

To ensure Nu Quantum are as efficient as possible when delivering project work, we have dedicated Office and Laboratory managers to manage the facilities, logistics and H&S of both the office space and our multi disciplinary laboratory spaces. These functions support all staff at Nu Quantum ensuring office resources are suitable and managing laboratory operations to ensure equipment is well maintained, consumables are purchased and laboratory rules are followed. Formalising the administration of these areas enables the technical staff to remain focussed on project delivery.

IP and Legal

As a rapidly growing start-up, our IP and Legal function is essential for contract negotiates, patent work to protect Nu Quantum's innovations; and understanding and enforcing compliance with industrial, commercial and governmental regulations. Please refer to the IP section for more details of Nu Quantum’s IP Strategy and Portfolio.

Finance

Our finance team at Nu Quantum are key to managing the financial health and strategic allocation of resources essential for sustaining our research and development efforts. As well as financial management, book keeping and payroll; the finance team are also key to the budgeting of the business and also the significant purchasing effort. This is due to the fact that Nu Quantum is a quantum hardware start-up, based on developing physical hardware prototypes and products.

Technical Teams

Electro-Mechanical

The electro-mechanical engineering team plays a crucial role at Nu Quantum because of the need to design, build, and maintain the intricate physical systems that house and drive our quantum hardware. Their expertise ensures that the hardware infrastructure is reliable and stable, which is critical for the sensitive nature of quantum computing systems. They are also responsible for fabricating mechanical sub assemblies and bespoke PCBs for inclusion into our systems.

Control

Quantum computing systems rely on specialised electronics for QPU and QNU control, including signal generation, readout systems, and precise timing circuits. Our control engineering team design the control circuits, hardware architectures that allow classical computers and control hardware to interface with quantum hardware.

Software

Making the complexities of Quantum Computing accessible beyond a lab setting is challenging and our software team are charged with solving this critical technical challenge. In particular our software team are experts in developing high performance tools and software interfaces for interacting with quantum hardware and optical systems in our lab.

Optics

Nu Quantum’s expert optics team are critical in designing and developing the optical technologies which are at the heart of our quantum hardware solutions. They also play a key role in the integration of optical components with other quantum and classical hardware within Nu Quantum’s technology, ensuring that the entire system functions cohesively.

Photonics

Our photonics team design and develop the photonic integrated circuits (switching, routing, waveguides, interconnects etc), and architect the integrated optical systems that serve as the foundation for nu Quantum’s scalable QNU architecture. Their expertise is vital for ensuring low-loss transmission and high-fidelity control of photons with our

Nanofabrication

Key parts of Nu Quantum’s technology rely on the ability to create highly precise, nanoscale structures. Utilising many state of the art fabrication processes for patterning and material deposition, Nu Quantum’s nanofabrication team are experts at designing and fabricating the novel structures required within our QPU and QNU technology.

Quantum Theory

The quantum theory team at Nu Quantum are pivotal for the development of our scalable quantum systems. Our theorists develop models to understand qubit interactions, and predict quantum system behaviour under different conditions and ahead of our practical implementations. Their insights are essential for identifying the most efficient ways to solve complex system architecture problems and for providing guidance on overall system optimisation.

Quantum Error Correction (QEC)

It is clear that fault tolerant quantum computation will require QEC to allow them to scale. Nu Quantum’s QEC team are experts in developing algorithms and techniques to detect and correct quantum errors. This results in error-correcting codes that protect qubits from errors while maintaining computational integrity.

AMO (Atomic, Molecular and Optical) Physics

One of the core technology capabilities of Nu Quantum is the Qubit Photon Interface. Development of this interface and integrating it with the qubit are the key responsibilities of the AMO team. This team specializes in developing techniques for trapping, cooling, and precisely manipulating quantum systems at the atomic level, which is essential for creating and maintaining stable qubits. Their work includes designing and implementing sophisticated optical setups and laser systems to control quantum states with high precision.

Commercial Teams

Product Management

Our Product Management team bridge the gap between Nu Quantum’s technology innovation and market needs. This ensures that research and development efforts align with business goals and, in particular, end customer demands. Their primary responsibility is to define the product vision, strategy, and roadmap based on market research, customer feedback, and competitive analysis.

Marketing

Nu Quantum’s marketing team are key to ensuring successful positioning and promoting of our innovative technologies and future product roadmaps to our target market. Excelling in management of our branding efforts and the highlighting of our value proposition is also key to attracting top engineering talent to Nu Quantum.
